New Charter (2024)
Purpose
To promote a safe working environment for library employees and all patrons
To ensure that safety procedures, policies are up to date, and being implemented and communicated.
To create and update emergency plans
Responsibilities
Policy, Procedures, and Planning
Review and update the Library Disaster Recovery Plan and campus Emergency Operations Plan annually
Review and update the Valley Library Safety Wiki site as needed
Regular review of Incident Reports and Accident Reports
Make recommendations to library leadership regarding needed changes to library policy
Ensure OSULP policies, procedures, and spaces align where appropriate with OSU
(University Health and Safety Committee, EHS, OSU Emergency Response, Campus Police, ADA, and OSHA)
Examine existing library structures and create response teams for emergency plans
Communication and Education
Communicate OSU Safety Initiatives and Information: Safety Week, Great Shake Out
Coordinate and advocate for safety trainings (De-escalation, First Aid, Mental health, Active Shooter, etc.)
Send out timely, quarterly safety updates & reminders (Sept, Jan, April, June)
Share Campus information like Emergency Preparedness topics and other safety updates
Share information at Admin Briefings as needed
Assist in emergency drills and evacuation
Safety Concern Log - Document any safety concerns that you would like discussed/addressed.
Agenda Items - Log topics to be discussed at Library Advisory Committee meetings
Supplies
Communicate safety equipment and supplies needs to Library Admin (AED units & first aid kits)
Recommend emergency signage needs
Emergency Resources
Calendar:
Coordinate and implement Safety Week (September)
Review and update the Library Disaster Recovery Plan (Summer)
Review and update the Valley Library Safety Wiki site as needed
Send out quarterly safety updates & reminders (Sept, Jan, April, June)
