2015-01-15 Meeting Notes

Present: Bryan, Don, Katie, Donna, Elizabeth

1. Valley Safety Recovery Plan
   1. Don will recommend to LAMP to switch to the dPlan for our plan template
   2. Bryan will provide Don with our current plan and dPlan for LAMP to review
   3. Once we have a decision, the committee will finish revisions for the year
   4. Staging Areas
      1. The committee will develop a staging area plan for building evacuations. Intended only for a library event and not campus wide.
      2. 3 areas outside and at least 100ft from the building will be designated for each work area/dept within the library based on their nearest emergency exit.
      3. North – central quad north of the library plaza. West – Waldo Plaza. East – garden area south of gymnastics building
      4. Don will account for work areas within the library and their nearest emergency exit
      5. Bryan will locate or create a map of the areas outside the library building. Will contact facilities on resources.
      6. Draft by Feb. meeting
      7. Pocket Emergency Response Plan
         1. Katie will begin developing a pocket Emergency Response Plan for the Valley Library
         2. Draft by Feb. meeting
         3. Evacuation Signage
            1. Committee feels there is a need for evacuation signage in certain parts of the library

                                                               i.      2^nd floor stairwells directing people to 1^st floor exits instead of the main entrance

                                                             ii.      Java II first floor window – glass window separating the 1^st floor library collection area from the Java II exit door

                                                            iii.      CLC area exit door – direct people to the east exit

1. Don will look for the Active Shooter building assessment by campus police
2. Bryan will contact Mike Bamberger on ideas for evacuation signage
3. Donna will contact Jim Patton about ideas for evacuation signage
4. Safety in Motion
   1. Elizabeth and Bryan will attend the SIM Certification training in Salem Jan 27-28. Will share experience at Feb. meeting.
   2. Committee discussed ideas on improving safety training for current and new employees
   3. PA Announcements during Emergencies
      1. Committee discussed when the PA might be used during building emergencies
      2. Currently no announcements are made during evacuations – only for power outages and closure of the building.
      3. Will continue discussion at Feb. meeting.
