OSU Safety-Focused Departments & Committees

Department of Public Safety

OSU's Department of Public Safety is made up of several services and units. These units include:

• Dispatch coordinates the Public Safety response to all emergency situations.
• Patrol public safety officers and police officers provide security and safety for the people and property at OSU's Corvallis campus. This includes a variety of services from After hours passes to welfare checks.
• Emergency Management's goal is to increase emergency preparedness in the campus community. They provide many services including
  • OSU Alerts which is our campus alert system. All students and staff are strongly encouraged to sign up for OSU Alerts.
  • Monthly Preparedness Topics teach the OSU community how we can all be more prepared at work and home for an emergency.
• The Clery Act is a federal statute requiring timely and accurate reporting of campus crimes and safety. The Clery Compliance team works closely with Public Safety units to ensure accurate collection of data which inform policy development and awareness programs.

Environmental Health & Safety

EHS assists departments in maintaining a safe and healthy environments. They provide training, consultation and disposal of hazardous waste. Many of the trainings we refer to come from this department.

Public Safety Advisory Committee

is made up of students, faculty, staff and representatives from multiple OSU departments. OSU recognizes that not everyone has the same experience with law enforcement, but believes all community members should feel valued and safe.

University Health and Safety Committee

is in place to ensure the health and safety of all university employees. They provide safety training and evaluate reported safety concerns to improve accident prevention. The monthly minutes of their meetings are available online. Rachel Burgess represents The Valley Library for this committee.
