Locks can be programmed to automatically lock and unlock on a schedule. Currently we assign schedules to the following locks:

  • Summer term the 5th floor study rooms are programmed to unlock for the day during open hours .
  • The 3rd floor staff lounge (3779) and RAS/TED/Press Spaces (3730) have unlock schedules which are different for each of the 3 doors.

Setting Up SmarTime (SMT) Profiles

In SMS Express, the locks can be programmed so that the doors unlock and lock at specified times; this feature is called "SmarTime." On the main SMS Express screen click the SmarTime (SMT) button, which will bring up the SmarTime window.

Click the "Door AutoUnlocks" tab. Select the "New" button at the bottom of the window. In the "Name" field enter a name for the new automatic unlock profile. Select the hours and the days you want for this profile.

Select Save and then Close to exit back to the main SMS Express window.

Assigning SmarTime profile to locks

Select Doors in the main SMS Express window.


Highlight the door that you wish to add automatic unlock to and click the Edit button.

Editing the lock details

Make sure that the "Use First Person In For AutoUnlock Schedules" option is not checked. Having this option selected means that the door will not automatically unlock at the specified time. Someone would have to present credentials to open the door when the library opens and then the door would remain unlocked. The default option is to have this option turned on. To turn it off, go to the main window and click the "Settings" menu to get to "Program Settings." Click the "Time Defaults" tab and uncheck the "Enable 'First Person In' by default."    Click the "AutoUnlocks" tabs.

Select the name of AutoUnlock profile you wish to use.

Assigning AutoUnlock profile to individual locks

Click the "Assign" then "Save. Repeat for every door that you want to assign automatic unlock too. Exit when finished.

Setting up Smart time with Engage

Under the Devices Menu at the top of the page, select "Schedules".

If this is a new schedule you want to set, Click the button "+Add New Event Schedule". If not, jump to the next step.

A pop-up will appear. Fill in the appropriate fields and select Save.

To use any of the schedules, you need to assign devices to each schedule. Please note that you may need to set up multiple schedules to account for different operating hours from day to day. In the image above, it shows 4 different schedules currently in use during the summer. During summer unlock, a single lock will be assigned to multiple schedules to ensure it unlocks every day the building is open. Select a schedule by clicking the downward triangle next to it.

Once you click "Assign Devices", this will pop-up showing you which devices are currently assigned to the schedule and which are not. Here you can see only 5th floor rooms are assigned. Add and remove doors as needed. Then save.

Sync the locks.

That's it. When it is time to remove the Summer Unlock schedule, un-assign the devices and save.
