| Group | Kaitlyn is 57% of the way done analyzing refanalytics data
Would be nice if often sought locations had signs that could be seen in the avenues There is no easily accessible current electronic directory for the room numbers that we can us to generate signage cost estimates etc., except for the study rooms which Kelly has a listing of. Everything has a room number from the blueprints which is available in electronic form, Victoria will ask a student to pull the information into a spreadsheet Smaller, more specific call number ranges for shelves would make maps more readable (may apply to interactive map capstone "blobs") Victoria will have someone do a lit review for literature regarding signage placement, design (typography, color, etc.), and language (Alternative To Libraryese!) Will need to do some kind of surveying to establish language used for areas in library, current stats primarily refer to locations by the terms librarians use for them, not the verbatim questions
"Information Desk" is a good name for that location because "i" is internationally recognized symbol for information People don't know what 'circulation' is, what our services are. |
40min | Design
| Group | There are currently no on-site sign manufacturing facilities at OSU Jessie Beam who used to work for facilities when we had a sign shop has started his own business and does nearly all of the manufacturing for OSU (he's the cheapest) There is no indoor signage branding campus wide and they probably aren't going to make one There is no regular meeting of campus wide building managers or list-serv that would be helpful for our needs, but there is a list available online of all the building managers Valley Library is one of few buildings with a designated on-site building manager person We don't want to overwhelm our users so we won't prototype too much too soon, start with areas that are already lacking any signage or are using temporary signage, may eventually do a whole floor
Hanging mobile or something with movement to draw attention might be a good idea Also hanging mobile art piece in 3rd floor open area over lobby Could prototype directory with temporary banner sign Faye was AUL when current green/purple signs were created, may have more info Icons are good, there are several main languages commonly spoken on campus including Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Spanish and language makeup may change at some point in the future so we don't want to get locked into particular second language signs. We also don't want to have overwhelmingly large or cluttered signage that is hard to read in all the languages. Also getting translations correct is difficult. Accessibility for colorblindness is not an ADA requirement but we do want to make signage as accessible as possible for colorblind and vision impaired persons Old floor map kiosks by elevator were not ADA accessible which is why they were replaced with the wall mounted maps Floor color coding in the works
