Overview
Sometimes you will need to reset a lock to its original factory settings. This can happen for a variety of reasons but the most common reason is moving the lock to a new facility file. However, you may find you need to do it for other reasons as well, such as a door's complete failure to recognize a code/key card despite everything being programmed correctly, and the batteries are fine. The process for doing this is different for each type of lock.
There are 3-4 basic steps:
- Create a program for the lock using the SMS software on the computer.
- Reset the lock to factory default
- For CM locks: "Create" a programming credential for the lock
- Program the lock with the file you downloaded onto the HHD.
CM locks (old locks)
These are the locks for all of the study rooms and research rooms. They require the serial port autosync cable and a programming credential when programming the lock.
- You are going to need a Philips head screwdriver or a drill and the programming credential. You will also need to program the lock as well, so bring the HHD and the serial port autosync cable.
- If you are unable to operate the lock at all, check out the master key from Circulation's locked closet to obtain access to room.
- Unscrew back panel
- There are two small white buttons on the circuit board inside:
- To reset the lock to factory settings:
- Press the clear button 3 times. The red light should come on for about 10 seconds. Wait until the light turns back off.
- This resets the lock to the default access code. You will find this code at the back of the hard copy of the room coordinator manual.
- Test this code to see if the door responds.
- If it does, proceed to preparing the lock for re-programming.
- If it does not, repeat the previous steps and try again.
- If it still does not work after a 3rd time, either the button battery is dead (which requires a locksmith) or the lock may have completely failed and needs to be replaced.
- The next step is to essentially create a programming credential for the lock.
- Press the re-program button 3 times.
- Hold the programming credential in front of the lock until you see the green and red lights flash.
- Press the re-program button 1 time
- Wait 10 seconds for the process to complete.
- Test the lock by presenting the programming credential again. The lights should flash red and green alternately. This means the lock recognizes the programming credential.
- Re-program the lock:
- Open the SMS Utility Software on the HHD and login. You should have a file on here for programming the lock. If you haven't done this, you will need to go back to the computer and create a file.
- Connect the HHD to the lock with the serial autosync cable.
- The HHD will tell you this is a new lock. It will ask you to select which door this is from the list of doors waiting to be programmed on the HHD.
- Select the name of the lock. Double check to make sure you have selected the correct door.
- Follow the prompts on the HHD and program the lock as you normally would. Refer to Programming Electronic Locks for reference if needed.
- When finished, disconnect the HHD and test door with pin/cards
- Once finished, re-attach back plate, being careful to make sure the spring is properly attached to the peg in the lock.
AD-200 locks
AD-200 locks are installed on the following doors:
- Circulation locked closet
- 2011–LEAD
- 2035–SMS
To completely reset the newer locks, you need to do a Level 2 reset. This basically means you go through all the reset steps twice.
For the AD-200 locks, you will need:
- HHD with program files on it
- USB port autosync cable
- A Philips head screwdriver or drill to remove the back.
Reset the lock to factory settings:
- Open the door and remove the upper part of the back panel.
- The large white button is the IPB (Inside Push Button).
- Press and hold the Schlage button above the keypad on the front of the lock until you hear 2 beeps. It takes about 10 seconds.
- Release the button.
- Press and release the IPB 3 times within 10 seconds. One beep will sound an done red blink will occur with each press.
- The Schlage button and the IPB will both light green for one second and a one-second beep will be heard. The lock has been reset.
- Now repeat all those steps a second time, starting within 10 seconds of the final beep from the first reset.
Couple the lock to the HHD
- The lock can only be coupled with one HHD at any given time. This increases lock security.
- Connect the lock to the HHD using the USB autosync cable. (Be sure the HHD connection type is set to USB and not Serial port.)
- Press the Schlage button twice.
- At this point, the HHD may display a message asking you if you want to change the password. Do not change the password. According to Allegion support, it will really mess up things if you change the password.
- The HHD may also give you directions about putting the lock into coupling mode. If so, follow the prompt unless it is telling you to change the password.
- You should see Device Options at the bottom of the screen on the HHD. Select this.
- To the right of the IPB there is a small metal switch plate. This is the tamper switch.
- Press and hold the IPB. While you have the IPB pressed in, press and release the tamper switch 3 times.
- Release the IPB. It should light up.
- On the HHD, select Couple HHD to Device
- When it has successfully coupled to the lock, you will see a message pop up on the screen.
Programming the lock
- At this point, the HHD should tell you it is detecting a new lock. Follow the prompts on the screen and select the lock name from the list on your HHD.
- It should now program the lock.
CO-200 locks
Other than the three doors listed under AD-200, any new lock in the building should be a CO-200 lock. What differentiates these locks from the AD-200 is that you do not need to open the back panel to reset the lock. If you do, you will only find batteries in that panel. Again, to completely reset the newer locks, you need to do a Level 2 reset. This basically means you go through all the reset steps twice.
To reset these locks you need:
- HHD
- USB port autosync cable
- A physical key that will open the door.
Reset the lock:
- Press and hold the Schlage button. Wait for the lock to beep twice and the button blinks green twice. Then release the button.
- Rotate the mechanical key with 10 seconds of releasing the button. The button will light green. Continue holding the key until the button light turns off for one second and beeps for one second. Release the key.
- The Schlage button will light green and beep again.
- Rotate the mechanical key again with 10 seconds of the Schlage button beeping. The button will light green. Continue holding the key until the button light turns off for one second and beeps for one second. Release the key.
- You have completed a Level 2 reset.
