First Aid & CPR-AED Training

Note: First Aid & CPR/AED certification is valid for two years.

Individual or Group Training (Anytime)

Dixon Recreation Center offers First Aid / CPR Training throughout the year.

All courses are offered in 2 formats, instructor-led and blended learning. Instructor-led courses are entirely classroom based and require no pre-course work. Blended learning splits the course work between online pre-course work and the classroom, allowing for much shorter class times. All courses are taught right here on campus at Dixon Recreation Center!

The pricing in parenthesis are for classes with 15 or more participants.

If you would like to take advantage of these classes through your department, the OSULP Safety Council would like you to follow the process below so that we may maintain a current list of First Aid / CPR-AED certified staff. Once certified, your name will be added to the Certified Staff list on our library wiki site. This will allow other library building staff to know who is currently certified.

Procedure for Training:

  1. Go to the Dixon Recreation web site and search for the course(s) and a time you can attend or if you would like to take the online course. If the online course you will need to schedule a Skills Check class with 60 days of course completion. If you know others who would like to attend in your dept. you can do this as a group.
  2. Send an email to your supervisor and dept. head requesting to attend the training. Include:
    1. Your name
    2. Your email
    3. Name of course(s)
    4. Date of course(s) or online
  3. After approval your dept. head will send an email to safety.programs@oregonstate.edu with:
    1. Participant names
    2. Participant emails
    3. Name of course(s)
    4. Date of course(s) or online
    5. Index to charge
  4. Dept. head will receive a confirmation email which they will share with the participants. Participants for in-person classes will not be officially registered but trainers will have them on their attendee’s list. All they need is to show up for the course(s).
  5. Attend the in-person course(s) or complete the online courses and attend the Skills Check class within 60 days.
  6. Once completed, inform the OSULP Safety Council chair who will then add your name to the library's list of certified staff and faculty.

To schedule a CPR or First Aid course for your group, please contact Justin Gordon at 541-737-4304. For information on our new blended learning course format offering, please see below.

I am excited to announce that we now offer our full list of CPR and First Aid courses in a blended learning format. The blended learning format puts the bulk of the course material online, allowing the participant to complete the material at their own pace, then complete a short skills check session at Dixon Recreation Center to receive their certification. Blended learning courses and in-class courses issue the same certification. The only difference is how the course material is delivered. This option is ideal for those who may not have the time in their schedules to take a 4 or 8 hour course.

How it works:

  1. Participants will need to purchase and complete the online component first. You can either purchase course access codes for your participants in bulk from Laerdal or Channing Bete, or have the participant purchase the code individually on the American Heart Association’s eLearning website.
  2. The participant will need to complete the online portion of the course, found at elearning.heart.org. **Note: We are only able to do skills checks for the following courses: Heartcode BLS, Heartsaver First Aid Online, Heartsaver CPR AED Online, and Heartsaver CPR Online.**
  3. Contact us to schedule a short, in-person skills testing session for your participants. The duration of the skills check session depends on the number of participants, however sessions generally last about an hour for 15 participants. Once the session is complete, certification cards will be printed and mailed to you.

To schedule a contract course or skills check session, please contact Justin Gordon at 541-737-4304 or at Justin.Gordon@oregonstate.edu
