• Collect the audit data from all the doors one last time. Download the data and back-up your facility files.
• Make note of the current file path configurations for:
  • Backing up the facility files
  • Downloading data from the HHD
• Plan to spend time on the phone with Allegion. You will need help with:
  • Download Windows Mobile Device Center and a patch that will allow it to work on Windows 10. 
  • Downloading any necessary firmware updates for new or existing locks.
  • Downloading the Schlage Utility Software for the HHD.
  • Downloading any necessary firmware updates for the HHD.

1. Install the SMS Express Program
   1. To install using the CD...
      
      1. The CD is located at the study room coordinator's desk in a plastic protective sleeve in the file cabinet under "Study Rooms."
      2. Navigate: Start>Computer>DVD Drive.
      3. Double click on SMS Express 4.2.0 Setup to start the installation.
   2. To install using the .exe file, go to the Allegion website and download the exe file for the 4.4 version. It's located under the Firmware/Software section. This is the current version we're using.
      1. the SMS 4.2.0 file is located at Shared>Library>LEAD>Circulation>Rooms. Double click to start installation.
   3. After you double clicked the file, the InstallShield Wizard will open to the Welcome screen.

   2. Enter a User Name and Organization in the provided fields.

1. 1. Click Next.

1. 1. Click Install. The installation process will begin.
   2. When the process is complete the Completed screen will open.

1. 1. Click Finish. SMS Express is now installed.
2. Open the SMS Express program. There should now be a shortcut on the desktop.
3. The first time you log in, you use just the default

1. username (Manager)

1.  and password (123456).
2. A prompt will come up.

1. Click Continue.

2. Unlock the SMS Express software with a code to verify purchase.

   1. Go to

1. 1. the Allegion website to register by filling out their form. (Allegion bought Schlage recently, so the URL in the user manual is incorrect.)

   2. The form will ask for...

      1. a machine ID number, which you get from the SMS Express software.

         1. Click

1. 1. 1. 1.  to get the machine ID number, which is a 16 digits of numbers and letters.

      2. the customer order number, which is is located on the CD install sleeve; it

1. 1. 1. is 558183.

   2. The code will get sent to your email after you submit the registration form. Until you get the unlock key, which can take a couple of days, continue to use the default username and password to log into the program. 

   3. The program will prompt you to enter an unlock key every time you log in. Enter it when you get it through your email.
      1. The unlock key prompt will as for the machine ID, username, which is MANGER (case sensitive) and the unlock key.
2. Load the facility from the share drive
   
   1. Go to Facility>Restore Backup
   2. Click Yes. The Select Facility to Restore window will open.
   3. Navigate to the database that was backed up from the previous version and select the backup file. So, go

1. 1. to Shared>Library>LEAD>Circulation>Rooms>DO NOT DELETE MOVE OR MODIFY
   2. Click Open. The Existing Facility File Found window will open.
   3. Click OK
2. Set the facility backup location
   1. The facility backup location is where all the files for the locking system are store. Backup the facility on the share drive.
   2. In SMS Express, click

1. 1. on Settings>Program Settings,

1. 1.  select the Backup

1. 1.  tab.

   2. To change the location of the backup folder, click Change Folder. The Select Path Window will open.

      1. The default location on a 32 Bit platform is C:\Program Files\Schlage Security Management System Express\

      2. The default location on a 64 Bit platform is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Schlage Security Management System Express\

   3. Navigate to S:\Shared\LEAD\Circulation\Rooms\DO NOT DELETE MOVE OR MODIFY to change it to that location. (Your letter for the share drive may not be "S." It can be another letter.)
   4. Click

   2. Don't leave the Program Settings just yet. We're not done here.
2. Set the synchronization folder
   1. Windows Mobile Device Center created a synchronization folder on your computer that the HHD uses to synchronize files with your computer. SMS Express needs to know that location in order to use that folder.
   2. Find the synchronization folder
      1. Open WMDC
      2. Hover over Mobile Device Settings
      3. Click

1. 1. 1. on Change content sync settings
      2. Click on Sync Settings

1. 1. 1.  under Files

      2. Make a note of the folder path listed. It probably looks similar to: C:\Users\locksystem\Documents\Documents on Portunus

         1. (Locksystem is the name of the local account you created. Portunus is the name of the HHD.)
   2. Go back to SMS Express to the Program Settings. Click on

1. 1.  tab.
   2. Select that

1. 1. the locks will be programmed with a Pocket PC device
   2. Click Change Folder

1. 1.  and you will be given an option to select the location.
   2. Navigate to the synchronization folder that you found earlier.

1. 1. Click OK.
   2. in the Program Settings window,

1. 1. click Save, then

1. 1. click Close.
2. Add System Operators

   1. Adding system operators enables you and other staff members to have log in access to the Schlage Express
      software. After you add at least one System Operator with all privileges, remember to delete the default Manager

      and Operator
   2. In the Main screen, click

1. 1. on Settings>Operator Settings.

1. 1. Click Add

1. 1.  at the bottom of

1. 1. the Manager

1. 1.  pane, which will create an account that will have all privileges.
   2. Use the same username and password information as we do for all our shared log in credentials.
   3. Delete the default manger and operator accounts.
2. Plug in the credential reader to a serial port on the back of your computer. There is no software or driver that is needed for this piece of hardware. 
   
   1. To test that it's working, go to create a keycard and have the credential reader scan a keycard from the box of extras. It should fill out a 16 digit number. Cancel any changes since it's just a test for the credential reader.
