...
There are several roof projects during the second half of 2021spanning 2022 and 2023. The roof timeline is still in flux but it could be summer or fall this year based current planning conversations. A 20-30 year roof that keeps the building safe and dry will serve as a foundation for the cell tower and solar projects. Solar will be the final roof project and is currently building funding as a pilot for campus to explore solar for other campus buildings.this summer the ATT project is anticipated. The cooling unit connected to the archive Liebert was in spring/summer 2022.
Impact: A crane will likely be onsite at various times, there will be construction workers and noise. Work and noise will be especially present on the 6th floor as some construction is from the underside of the roof deck.
Roof Replacement
Currently in the planning stages, I am attending weekly meetings for project planning with the architect and campus project manager.
The timeline at present ranges from it could happen as soon as summer of 2021 to it could be fall or delayed
Cell Antennae
This project was originally slated for 2020 but was delayed for various reasons (COVID, etc)
The timeline at present is starting in June. Fencing will go up the week of June 12th/19th and work will start at the end of the month/early July and be fully completed by October 1st.
Fencing will be places around portions of the perimeter to create a safe zone for work. Similar to what you may have seen elsewhere on campus.
This project includes the library, campus planning, IS, and ATT.
Roof Replacement
The architectural drawings are complete. Planning meetings occurred through fall 2020 to winter 2021.
The timeline at present is unknown, though a problematic section of the roof was done over the archive.
The other roof centered projects rely on the completion of are connected to this one.
There This project is debate between a complete reroof with removal down to deck and a more short term (20y) solution that would be membrane based on top of the existing roof.
There was a forensic engineering report completed on the roof in December 2020 and roof coring completed in January 2021.
Likely there may need to be historical review of architecture prior to project approval.
Cell Antennae
This project was originally slated for 2020 summer 2021 but was delayed for various reasons (COVID, New Roof, etc)
The timeline at present has it either occurring summer 2021 or waiting until after roof replacement is complete.
This project is in partnership with IS.due to budgetary concerns and waiting on the Cell project.

Solar Panels
Myself, Beth Filar-Williams, and Brandon Trelstad worked together and submitted a grant to Ebsco to fund solar panels for the roof. We were awarded the grant of $75k which triggered acceleration of replacing the roof as a ballasted or rack system should be placed on a roof with a long life expectancy. Currently Brandon Trelstad is hard at work with the OPC and campus to navigate this project as a pilot for public funding co-ops to support solar panels across campus on various building roofs. We would potentially be the first of many!
A ballasted system is the most likely choice but there are sections of the roof where rack systems are being considered.
More information will be added as details emerge.

Updates
Construction meetings ongoing from April 2023 through end of September for cell antannae project with ATT/Verizon/TMobile on the library roof.
Crane use on the South and North sides impact walkways and for one week in July half of the 6th floor was closed due to the noise from anchoring with the Gilty tool.
East and West portions of the Quad alternating closure from crane use.
In August 17th meeting, planning and construction confirmed for SW portion of the roof over the archive rolled into the cell antennae work. This section will be reroofed and will address leak concerns above the archive.
Project completion was slated for Oct. 1, 2023.
Other carriers may be doing less impactful work during summer/fall of 2024.
