Roof Projects
Current Status:
No active projects on Valley Roof.
Investigation of Solar Panel possibility at Guin from grant funds.
History
Cell Antennae
This project was originally slated for 2020 but was delayed for various reasons (COVID, etc)
The timeline started in June 2022. Fencing went up the week of June 12th/19th and work started at the end of the month/early July and was completed by end of year 2023/24.
Fencing was placed around portions of the perimeter to create a safe zone for work. Similar to what is seen elsewhere on campus.
This project included the library, campus planning, IS, and ATT.
Roof Replacement Plans
The architectural drawings are complete. Planning meetings occurred through fall 2020 to winter 2021.
The timeline at present is unknown, though a problematic section of the roof was done over the archive.
The other roof centered projects are connected to this one.
This project is a complete reroof with removal down to deck.
There was a forensic engineering report completed on the roof in December 2020 and roof coring completed in January 2021.
This project was originally slated for summer 2021 but was delayed due to budgetary concerns and waiting on the Cell project. Now expected 2027.
Solar Panels for Guin
Myself, Beth Filar-Williams, and Brandon Trelstad worked together and submitted a grant to Ebsco to fund solar panels for the roof. We were awarded the grant of $75k which triggered acceleration of replacing the roof as a ballasted or rack system should be placed on a roof with a long life expectancy. Currently Brandon Trelstad is hard at work with the OPC and campus to navigate this project as a pilot for public funding co-ops to support solar panels across campus on various building roofs.
A ballasted system is the most likely choice but there are sections of the roof where rack systems are being considered. This was originally slated for Valley but due to the other roof projects it was delayed repeatedly. In late 2024 the decision was made to pivot to using the grant funds to install panels at Guin which is currently in negotiations.
More information will be added as details emerge.
Previous Updates
There were several roof projects spanning 2022 and 2023. The roof timeline is still in flux but this summer the ATT project is anticipated. The cooling unit connected to the archive Liebert was in spring/summer 2022.
Construction meetings were ongoing from April 2023 through end of September for cell antannae project with ATT/Verizon/TMobile on the library roof.
Crane use on the South and North sides impacted walkways and for one week in July half of the 6th floor was closed due to the noise from anchoring with the Gilty tool.
East and West portions of the Quad alternating closure from crane use.
In August 17th meeting, planning and construction confirmed for SW portion of the roof over the archive rolled into the cell antennae work. This section will be reroofed and will address leak concerns above the archive.
Project completion was slated for Oct. 1, 2023.
Other carriers may be doing less impactful work during summer/fall of 2024.
