Archival Scanning Lab (DPU)

Space for DPU: Creating an Archival Scanning Lab

The Archival Scanning spaces will be relocated to the current OLV Parent Study Room to consolidate operations, improve workflow efficiency, and optimize space usage. The existing lab is spread across three small offices, with scanning stations and equipment distributed inefficiently. The manager also cannot easily supervise the students directly doing the work. The new space will provide a more functional layout with improved infrastructure, interactivity when needed for supervision, better airflow, and storage.

Key upgrades include:

  • Hard flooring installation to reduce dust and improve cleanliness. SPRING BREAK

  • New data ports to support scanning equipment and digital workflows. COMPLETE

  • Lighting Upgrades and Dimmer Switch. COMPLETE

  • Efficient workstation layout, including scanning stations and an enclosed manager’s office.

  • Infrastructure, including power, improved airflow through adding filter units, and soundproofing is already in place.

This project is on a fast-tracked schedule, with the goal of completing renovations and moving operations into the new space in May. The timeline includes clearing the space, making infrastructure improvements, setting up workstations, and finalizing workflow adjustments. Once complete, the new scanning lab will provide a more efficient and sustainable work environment for the digital processing unit of SCARC.
