Meeting #3 November 10, 2021

  • exhibit install updates
    • Robin and Rachel hung 2 sets of the exhibit material in the main entrance and 2nd floor
    • are we done with install of the sets for the time being? YES
    • where will the permanent location be for the leftover exhibit materials - leave in 5th floor loading dock area? it the materials can stay there for the time being
    • Discussion: RB = the day of, someone was looking at the exhibit! they were reading content and using the QR codes. Amris notes observing folks as well. Note: all the sets are identical
    • Action Item(s): Robin can take photos of the final installs
  • featuring books with the exhibit
    • the 2nd floor hallway location could really use books; Robin can scout for physical books in the library but would love help to scouting people for book recommendations. @Amris Allemand do you think we could coordinate some sort of social media campaign to this end?
    • timeline for this? install plan?
    • do we want to do this? put a pin in this for now?
    • Discussion: Robin notes that many o four books focus on history and it's important to clarify that we are wanting to show contemporary stories; is it appropriate for us to pull materials from the collection? Maybe QR codes stands for more contemporary information? Perhaps a content blurb with additional resources. We want to focus on this "is" vs "was" Kalapuyan land. Maybe working with Indigenous contacts.
    • Action Item(s): connect with Lu and David
  • reconnecting with Lu and David
    • just an FYI to them? are we seeking input on anything?
    • Discussion: ask for a brainstorming session for further supplementation of the exhibit; we are considering a phased evolution to the exhibit, so what are their thoughts re the future of the exhibit
    • Action Item(s): NF will reach out about a future meeting - and RB and Robin can take it from there
  • promotion plan
    • who, what, where, when?
    • libguide update: https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/land-acknowledgments
    • Discussion: yes re: the libguide; with the holidays and end of term, should we plan for winter term promotion?
      • Robin is currently updating the libguide
      • social media and kiosks in winter term to more fully promote the exhibit, prob one post per week
    • Action Item(s):
  • the future of this team?
    • meet again in 2-3 weeks?
    • are we a team for the rest of this academic year or is there an end date for us? For Amris, she will be out starting in mid-March; there will be a temp person covering some of her duties
    • long-term = writing a 2021-22 impact report re: the use of special funds
    • assessment= perhaps add a comment box or a white board; observational evidence of people seeing the exhibit; collaborations or other activities; the beavs link may track # of clicks - maybe ask Kenna?
    • Discussion: meet AFTER the meeting with Lu and David; we can communicate via slack until then
    • Action Item(s): plan for a team meeting AFTER RB and Robin connect with Lu and David

Meeting #2 October 27, 2021

  • Install Recommendation and Planning
    • From Slack: There are 9 (1flipped) signs  before the pictures repeat- so we figured it would make sense to have 1 set immediately in the front entrance & by the Reading Room, 1 at Java gallery, 1 on the 1st floor info desk, 1 on the 5th floor…. This way they are decently spread out without repeating pictures being next to each other. It also might make sense to plan to install the first week of November
    • Install plan
      • who: RB and Robin (install) and Amris can take photos of the install process
      • where: 1 at the front entrance & by the Reading Room, 1 at Java gallery, 1 on the 1st floor info desk, 1 on the 5th floor
      • when: Wed Nov 3rd, from 2-5pm
    • Content Blurb
      • this is what this exhibit is info and here's a QR code (Robin will ask RB about this)
  • Promotion Plan
    • Amris would like to time the social media posts over time (every 1-2 weeks or so), not all at once; maybe do a hashtag for OSUL
    • other items to promote i.e. resources? Robin could compile some resources
    • kiosks slides - Amris
    • main homepage promotion - Amris
    • scan the posters (as jpegs) - Robin and Amris (will talk to Sagan)
    • idea: per-scheduiled social media posts
  • Timeline for the exhibit
    • definitely promote it heavily this FY22 year
    • then determine a potential permanent location
    • long term use will also depend on how well the exhibit holds up
  • LibGuide for the exhibit
  • Next Meeting
    • Wed Nov 10th 2-3pm

Meeting #1 October 13, 2021

Communication Preferences

  • Internal
    • Email or slack group (i.e. a direct message for the 4 of us or a new channel?) or both?
    • Documentation: use the Arts and Exhibits wiki
    • ACTION ITEM: Create slack channel - RB will create - DONE
  • Internal to the library
    • Amris can share information with LEAD (and can share the wiki info)
    • RB and NF share with LAMP (and can share the wiki info)

Exhibit Content:

  • 3 sets, 20 signs each
  • Dimensions are 24 in (w) x 18 in (h) per sign
  • Lawn prongs (prob not useful for inside the library, but they came with the exhibit and could be used for an outdoor exhibit)
  • Note: we purchased the signs so we get to keep them!

Storage location (for install access and for any un-used content):

  • Temp storage: 5th floor loading dock (staff only space)
  • Long term: TBD

Exhibit Locations:

  • Windows (we want to ensure visibility for the content and for access to light for patrons)
  • Outside (several locations on campus are already displaying them outside their spaces)
  • The RR on the main floor (maybe, TBD and at the earliest 2022)
  • Rotunda
  • On the main floor, there is a 20 year anniversary exhibit ---- and that could be moved
  • Hallways (note the accessibility / fire marshal issues)
  • Learning Commons - lots of walls (note the walls are near walkways in some cases so folks may not be able to stop and read)
  • Catalog spaces in the middle of avenues that are fairly empty

ACTION ITEMS:

  • NF will share when the boxes are on the 5th floor loading dock space for access - DONE
  • RB and Robin will scout for locations and report back to the group

 Timeline:

  • Perhaps aim for November for Narive American Heritage Month
  • Perhaps a phased approach since we have 3 sets; perhaps the sets can rotate locations

 Stakeholders

  • NAL and Anthro (Lu and David); NAL graphic design student?
  • ACTION ITEM: NF will reconnect with them and copy the team - DONE

Promotion:

  • The exhibit website offers pre-made social media content that can be repurposed; new social media content can be created, as is applicable
  • We have a https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/land-acknowledgments guide and a new tab could be added to this existing guide to feature the exhibit OR another guide could be created and we link to it from this guide
  • Typical avenues of promotion used:
    • OSU Today
    • Kiosks- in library
    • kiosks- in Dixon &MU
    • kiosks- in dorms and dining halls

Long term ideas:

  • Perhaps a speaker in the spring and maybe connect with the Press; Robin Wall Kimmerer Press book

 Additional Costs:

  • The LAMP proposal noted there may be additional costs and the same gift fund could be used (with a check in to AMD)
    • command strips! to not damage the walls (better than the blue tape)

Next Meeting:

  • Wed Oct the 27th 2pm
