Meeting #3 November 10, 2021
- exhibit install updates
- Robin and Rachel hung 2 sets of the exhibit material in the main entrance and 2nd floor
- are we done with install of the sets for the time being? YES
- where will the permanent location be for the leftover exhibit materials - leave in 5th floor loading dock area? it the materials can stay there for the time being
- Discussion: RB = the day of, someone was looking at the exhibit! they were reading content and using the QR codes. Amris notes observing folks as well. Note: all the sets are identical
- Action Item(s): Robin can take photos of the final installs
- Robin and Rachel hung 2 sets of the exhibit material in the main entrance and 2nd floor
- featuring books with the exhibit
- the 2nd floor hallway location could really use books; Robin can scout for physical books in the library but would love help to scouting people for book recommendations. @Amris Allemand do you think we could coordinate some sort of social media campaign to this end?
- timeline for this? install plan?
- do we want to do this? put a pin in this for now?
- Discussion: Robin notes that many o four books focus on history and it's important to clarify that we are wanting to show contemporary stories; is it appropriate for us to pull materials from the collection? Maybe QR codes stands for more contemporary information? Perhaps a content blurb with additional resources. We want to focus on this "is" vs "was" Kalapuyan land. Maybe working with Indigenous contacts.
- Action Item(s): connect with Lu and David
- reconnecting with Lu and David
- just an FYI to them? are we seeking input on anything?
- Discussion: ask for a brainstorming session for further supplementation of the exhibit; we are considering a phased evolution to the exhibit, so what are their thoughts re the future of the exhibit
- Action Item(s): NF will reach out about a future meeting - and RB and Robin can take it from there
- promotion plan
- who, what, where, when?
- libguide update: https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/land-acknowledgments
- Discussion: yes re: the libguide; with the holidays and end of term, should we plan for winter term promotion?
- Robin is currently updating the libguide
- social media and kiosks in winter term to more fully promote the exhibit, prob one post per week
- Action Item(s):
- Robin will publish the libguide (and will continue working in it) https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/land-acknowledgments/ThisIsKalapuyanLand
- social media- Amris can post next week to share the exhibit is up; will use the shorter url = rbeav.es/Kalapuyan-Land-Exhibit
- OSU Today- Amris re: Native & Indigenous Heritage Month; will adhere to the posting guidelines: "Celebrate Native & Indigenous Heritage Month by visiting the Museum at Valley Library: This IS Kalapuyan Land exhibit displayed on the 2nd floor of the Valley Library in the lobby and the Learning Commons. For more information, please visit our LibGuide at: beav.es/Kalapuyan-Land-Exhibit" OR "Celebrate Native & Indigenous Heritage Month by visiting the Museum at Valley Library: This IS Kalapuyan Land exhibit displayed on the 2nd floor of the Valley Library in the lobby and the Learning Commons. This display was curated by Steph Littlebird Fogel from at Five Oaks Museum For more information, please visit our LibGuide at: beav.es/Kalapuyan-Land-Exhibit & https://fiveoaksmuseum.org/exhibit/this-is-kalapuyan-land/"
- Robin will publish the libguide (and will continue working in it) https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/land-acknowledgments/ThisIsKalapuyanLand
- the future of this team?
- meet again in 2-3 weeks?
- are we a team for the rest of this academic year or is there an end date for us? For Amris, she will be out starting in mid-March; there will be a temp person covering some of her duties
- long-term = writing a 2021-22 impact report re: the use of special funds
- assessment= perhaps add a comment box or a white board; observational evidence of people seeing the exhibit; collaborations or other activities; the beavs link may track # of clicks - maybe ask Kenna?
- Discussion: meet AFTER the meeting with Lu and David; we can communicate via slack until then
- Action Item(s): plan for a team meeting AFTER RB and Robin connect with Lu and David
Meeting #2 October 27, 2021
- Install Recommendation and Planning
- From Slack: There are 9 (1flipped) signs before the pictures repeat- so we figured it would make sense to have 1 set immediately in the front entrance & by the Reading Room, 1 at Java gallery, 1 on the 1st floor info desk, 1 on the 5th floor…. This way they are decently spread out without repeating pictures being next to each other. It also might make sense to plan to install the first week of November
- Install plan
- who: RB and Robin (install) and Amris can take photos of the install process
- where: 1 at the front entrance & by the Reading Room, 1 at Java gallery, 1 on the 1st floor info desk, 1 on the 5th floor
- when: Wed Nov 3rd, from 2-5pm
- who: RB and Robin (install) and Amris can take photos of the install process
- Content Blurb
- this is what this exhibit is info and here's a QR code (Robin will ask RB about this)
- Promotion Plan
- Amris would like to time the social media posts over time (every 1-2 weeks or so), not all at once; maybe do a hashtag for OSUL
- other items to promote i.e. resources? Robin could compile some resources
- kiosks slides - Amris
- main homepage promotion - Amris
- scan the posters (as jpegs) - Robin and Amris (will talk to Sagan)
- idea: per-scheduiled social media posts
- Timeline for the exhibit
- definitely promote it heavily this FY22 year
- then determine a potential permanent location
- long term use will also depend on how well the exhibit holds up
- LibGuide for the exhibit
- for now, use the existing guide https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/land-acknowledgments
- Robin has access and will create a new tab (Amris will wait and Rachel will contact TED about her account)
- Next Meeting
- Wed Nov 10th 2-3pm
