2024 Meeting Notes

7/23/24

Present: Lucinda Amerman, Beth Shields, McKenzie Heryford, Laura Ramos, Rachel Burgess, Robin Weis

Reviewed map revisions made after last meeting:

  • Remove pink “study area” designation from all areas except quiet study areas on floors 5 and 6.

  • Delineate maps and microforms areas from Worm Hole and Mole Hole in the same way stacks are indicated on other floors.

  • Remove shading for Grad Student Commons area on floor 6.

  • Changing “Gender Inclusive” restrooms to “All Gender”.

Things to discuss for next year’s map updates:

  • Water fountains are being added to the LEAD Service desk map. Perhaps add them to the wayfinding maps next year.

  • Discuss display areas such as SCARC kiosks, donor kiosks, and rotating display areas. What criteria do we apply when deciding to add display areas to the wayfinding maps?

  • Follow up on latest university policy/language for All Gender restrooms.

Website map pages

The library website is being redesigned with plans to launch Winter term. The group will continue meeting to discuss how maps should be displayed on the website and what information should be included. Questions to consider:

  • Previously “small maps” were included for wayfinding. Many of the building features had their own small map with that feature highlighted that patrons accessed through links on the floor maps web pages. These individual maps are labor intensive.

    • Do they merit the labor?

    • Are there other options?

  • How do we want to display smaller areas of the building such as the Learning Commons or Classroom furniture layouts?

  • How do we want these pages arranged on the website?

Action Items

@Robin Weis will make additional updates and share with the group
@Lucinda Amerman will share next round of updates with building partners for one final pass.
@Lucinda Amerman will set a meeting to discuss the website
