Student Health Event

URWS report of inappropriate message written on public prompt

  • "I feel like (strangling someone)".
  • No way to follow-up but specific enough to report.
  • Appeared to be a response of frustration rather than threat of violence.

Another health event

  • staff assisted student with food, water, and place to be comfortable.

Student in distress

  • Student needed someone to talk to.
  • Sagan spent time talking to student. Lots of things going on for the student.
  • After discussing options, OSU Assist was called.
  • OSU Assist arrived within 10-20 minutes and consulted with student in private room. Student left with responders.

Public Safety dispatch will contact OSU Assist for you. Hours are 1pm-1am, 5 days a week. More information on their website.

  • Inform email comes out every fall and is information can be found on the safety wiki.
  • Wiki page needs some updating and tweaking.
  • Lucinda suggested it should be someone from LEAD since they deal most directly with closures.
  • Process for notifying partners
  • Website is typically updated as well.
  • This wiki page would be a good place to create a checklist (perhaps duplicating the Acting Dean document), so it's easy to locate.
  • Sagan will start working on the revisions and email updates to Safety Council for review.

Narcan-Should we consider having available at the library?

  • Rachel is asking thoughts about this after it was mentioned at UHSC by Student Health Services.
  • Per training Kenna has taken, can't really overdose on Narcan.
    • Pretty straightforward to administer.
    • People may need more than one dose.
    • 1-2 doses is recommended.
  • Erin has experience with epi-pens
    • Training is generally recommended for epi pens.
    • There are some with automatic directions that are easier but more expensive.
    • 1-2 doses is also recommended.
  • Would this be a collaboration with Student Health Services?
    • Per Rachel, SHS is not willing to take on that cost for campus.
    • Perhaps a LAMP proposal.
    • Discussed other funding possibilities
  • Several members agree it is a good idea to have them onsite.
    • Administration should be covered under Good Samaritan law.
    • How do you know when to use Narcan or an epi pen?
  • Training-where and how?
    • Training for Narcan available on website linked.

Agreed this is a good idea. Questions about sourcing. LAMP Proposal for funding is the next step.

Rachel wanted to check in with how it is working, especially for LEAD.

  • Erin feels it is working very well at getting backup in the moment and support that didn't exist previously.
  • How does it work for folks on the channel? Do people know when or how to respond?
    • Closing the loop about status of the request such as "all clear" would be helpful.
    • Some people monitor and find it to be helpful when emergency vehicles are spotted onsite.
    • Good to keep it as a separate line of communication.
    • Discussed Slack notification settings for channel.
  • Description of channel could be updated to let people know have a better sense of how to use the channel.
  • Discussed ways to make sure people know about it.
    • Should be announced again during Admin briefing.
    • Having employees join the channel could also be part of onboarding.
