LAMP approved funding for Sagan and Rachel to be trained by CPI. Rachel completed it yesterday. Sagan will attend in July.

Sagan reported about White Bird. It is currently tentative. They are getting mixed messages about making it happen. There is also an additional training option with CPI. There was discussion for all staff training. Unclear where that stands. LAMP seemed to be supportive but we need to make sure we stay within budget. Rachel talked about different training options within CPI. For certification, there is an online part and classroom part led by Rachel and Sagan. Total of 4 hours required for the training. That time commitment may be a challenge for folks.

For students, would want a shortened version. Certification would be important for some people within their job descriptions. Not necessarily needed for students. The certification is more costly than anticipated. The pool of money was for all staff training. But some staff may also want actual certification. The question is would there be approval for funding from LAMP?

Rachel recommends pursuing White Bird for all staff training during inservice. Looking at CPI for a more targeted group when things quiet down a bit.Kenna thinks  we can get something going with White Bird and feels it is a better match for us at this time.

Safety Training Schedule: Review and Prioritizing Trainings

Discussion began at the last meeting - minutes here.
Questions to answer:

  • What training priorities would we like to set as folks return onsite?
  • Do there need to be additions or changes?
  • What should safety week look like this year?
  • Present Safety Council Information at which Admin Briefing? (Purpose Document, Incident Form, Wiki, OSU Alerts Valley Library?
  • General safety information and reminders, department specific safety information, etc?
All

Priorities for training:

  • Evacuation drills
  • filling out incident report forms
  • location of emergency exits, staging areas, first aid kits, fire alarm pulls,
  • active shooter (run, fight, hide-where to hide),
  • AED/CPR/First Aid training.

Derek asked about the rate of return for library folks--all at once or a few at a time. How does that impact delivery of information? How do we want to package this information?

Kenna likes emails to prep people that these drills are upcoming. Some drills can be scheduled but not all of them.

Karl suggested a checklist of things to complete for safety training. Prizes for completing the checklist. “Passport to Library Safety”

What you think vs how it is: What do you think the evacuation procedure is and then read up on the actual procedures.

Admin Briefings: Wiki updates, incident report form changes, Library-specific campus alert system. Introducing Safety Council members. Can send out emails in advance of briefings with supplemental information. Shoot for a briefing in July.

Safety Week: Sept. 13-17 Friday is “catch-up” day.

Other MattersAllFirst Aid kits-rather than having them done by each department, would be more efficient to have one person check on all of them. Revisit next month.
